Monday Madness

`We just returned home from a fabulous Disney vacation! I was going to blog about each day, but it has been a Monday around here! I am keeping my sweet nephew Colbie today. First time I have had him for an extended time to myself!
He arrived at 7 am, yes I was awake, but ONLY because Colbie was coming and I was a little excited to have him all day. Andrea said he eats five ounces every three hours and takes two to three naps a day. What a perfect baby. We played for about an hour before he began to scream. This scream was a demand for food. I was fixing him a bottle when Kaleb woke up. This SUPER early for Kaleb to be awake. So I went into his room to find him lying in a pool of urine. Good Monday morning...I think not.

SIDE NOTE: Many of you may know Kaleb has over 35 surgeries throughout his seven years on Earth. The minor, I mean MAJOR one being a kidney transplant! During this surgery is bladder was damaged and no longer works, so he urinates through a urostomy into a bag that attaches to his skin. It is a constant urine flow since there is no bladder to hold the urine. At night he is hooked up to a large drain bag, so that we aren't up all night empty his child-size bag. Thank you LORD for all things medical.

Back to story, I forgot to turn his bag to drain position last night when I hooked him up and put him to bed! So his child size bag was swelled up like the Goodyear blimp and has leaked in his bed. His pjs, bed linens, and pillows all had to be stripped and put in the wash and him in the bath. Mind you we are not usually awake at this time and Colbie is still crying, hungry! So Kaleb is in the bath, I began to fed Colbie, instant peace filled the home. Kaleb begins to yell about half way through Colbie's bottle that he is ready to get out of the bath. Most 7 year olds could get out themselves, .... BUT my seven year old is special. He has to have a urostomy bag each time he gets out of the bath and a new bandage over his Mickey button. Mickey button (google it). We use it to keep his "EXTRA SPECIAL, GOD-GIVEN KIDNEY" well hydrated, because he does not drink well.

So Colbie decided to finish the bottle and lay quietly on the couch as I tend to helping Kaleb get out of the bath. Whew! Is it nap time yet? I hate naps, but I fill like I could use one already and it is ONLY 8:15 am. At 8:30 am, Colbie is whining again and Kaleb says, "Mom, I think he wants his diaper changed." Good idea, I thought! It worked! I changed him and rocked and he went right to sleep. I fixed him a snug spot on the couch, laid him down, and got my Bible out to continue in my Ruth study. I read at least two verses, before I hear yet another small voice. Kaleigh is up and when Kaleigh is everyone is up and on guard. She my friend, is a sweet and WILD child! BIBLE STUDY=FAIL.
I set Kaleigh in the rocker while I prepare her a healthy, wholesome breakfast, a chocolate donut and milk. I turn the corner from the kitchen and she has woke Colbie up and is saying, "Mommy, baby awake!" She is excited to have "baby" here, until I hold him. So I take Colbie to her crib, so he can sleep without torture. Twenty minutes later he starts crying, so my dear friend Sarah steps in to help. She rocks him with his passy, doesn't help. She says, "I think he is hungry." I say, "No way, he ate an hour and twenty minutes ago." But she was here for a short time and Kaleb needed water and medicine, Kaleigh was screaming to get down from her high chair. So I fixed Colbie another two ounces of milk. He chugged it like it was his job! Then he went right to sleep.

Kaleigh and Kaleb played for a while, then I put her in her high chair with markers and paper. As you can tell she did not need paper.

This sweet face is now done coloring and heads into the pantry to stack cans, a.k.a., destroy the pantry. I walked in and she said, "Momma, I poop." If you are old enough to tell, you are old enough to be potty trained. We may try to start tomorrow.
Finally, Colbie is asleep, Kaleigh is coloring again, and Kaleb is playing PS3. Peace and quiet!
At noon Colbie wakes up crying , he has peed through his diaper, and outfit, and on to the bed. Got him changed and he needs to eat AGAIN! His mommy told me to feed him five ounces every three hours, but today Colbie needed to eat seven ounces every three hours. He may wake up HUGE in the morning!

Kaleb had Dylan and Ian over for a swim date. They arrive at 1pm. They had a blast! We have missed them at church the last few weeks, so Kaleb was excited to see them!
The BOYS!

Dylan flipping into the pool! Dangerous, YES! But I ask him to do it again so that I could get a photo. :)

They boys swam for about four hours and had a blast! We love summer with all our friends.
Colbie went home at six. He was so sweet! Look forward to keeping him again soon.
I cooked Hamburger Helper for the first time in about eight years! Kaleb has never had it and neither has Kaleigh. They loved it! Since Erik is not at home to eat, I wanted something quick and easy. Guess what is for lunch tomorrow... that is right....Hamburger Helper.
After dinner we went outside to play and drive the power wheels. Then in for baths and bed.
Hopefully, tomorrow I will post about our first day at Disney!

One more picture of Colbie, just because he is too cute!

Good Night!

  1. Whew! You are making me tired!!! LOL I definitely do not miss the baby days. I love to hold them, snuggle them, and hand them back! :) Mine, for the most part, are fairly independent. I'm down to one in diapers (who I'm not sure will EVER potty train) and even though there's five of them we have minimal crazy days, thank the Lord! :) Colbie sure is a cutie and Kaleigh and Kaleb are adorable! :)
